10 basic tips to lose weight

1- Drink a lot of water. It helps you be always hydrated and so be healthier, but it also helps you go to the bathroom more often and get rid of all the toxins in your body that might otherwise become fat.

2- If you’re hungry, eat fruit. No chocolate, no chips, no candy. Not only they don’t have nutritious elements, but they’re bad for you.

3- Do sport or exercise everyday. Even only 15 minutes every day can make a big difference. Of course, it depends what you do. If you walk, go biking or play a sport it should be about 30 minutes per day (though for sports, it could be like 1h a day, 3-4 days a week.) If you do exercise (push-ups, machines, jogging, trampoline, etc.) you could do at least 15-20 minutes per day at the beginning. As you do that, you can add a few minutes. For example, the first week, you do 15 minutes, 2nd: 20 m, 3rd: 25 m, 4th: 30 m, etc.

4- Try not to eat any fast food (fries, pizza, poutine, hot dog, hamburger, etc.) for a period of time. Example: 2 months without fast food.

5- Don’t go on a diet in which you don’t eat anything. Eat less, yes, and well, but not nothing! Especially if you’re under 18, because you’re still supposed to grow and if you don’t eat, you can’t concentrate at school and you’ll be depressed or in a bad mood. Also, not eating can lead to anaemia (which is a blood disease), nausea, and anorexia. Here is an example to show you what not eating can do: I was at LaRonde and I didn’t eat or drink anything all morning. I did 2h of biking to get there and while waiting in line, I felt sick and weak. Less than a minute later, I couldn’t even see. After drinking water and eating, I felt ok. What happened is that, by not eating, my brain didn’t get enough sugar and nutritious elements, so my body couldn’t function well. For example: I couldn’t see. If you don’t eat, this kind of problem will happen often.

6- Careful! Less-sugar or no-sugar food isn’t necessarily good for you, because if an aliment is sweet without sugar, it means that the sugar has been replaced by another substance that is worse for you and that might give you cancer. A good example is aspartame. It’s a no-calorie substance that is used to replace sugar. There is aspartame in coke diet, coke zero and bubble gum. This substance is bad for you and once you eat it, your body won’t be able to evacuate it. It can give all sorts of complications, for example: cancer.

7- If you’re thirsty, drink water or home-made smoothies (made with fresh fruit), not sodas! Drinking sodas such as coke or sprite makes you fat and is also very bad for your health, because it’s considered as fast food.

8- Avoid eating a lot of noodles, pasta or bread. Wheat food, like bread and pasta, especially if you buy it, can make you gain weight like crazy. Some people get fat just because they eat to much bread or spaghetti. Of course, it’s important to eat fibre, but you can get it by making your own bread (there are some bread recipes that contain a lot of nutritious seeds or substances).

9- Eat almonds everyday. They’re great for your health and help you lose weight. They can also help you be in a better mood, not depressed and more effective at school or at work.

10- Eat fish, especially salmon, at least 2 times a week. Fish contains Omega3, which is great for your brain (so it makes you smarter), makes you lose weight and has a ton of nutritious elements. Sometimes, I even eat chips the same day I eat salmon and I still lose 1 kg!
